Finally a logical variation of the well-known “crazy dots”!
The magician shows a flat die (a white board with black dots), which shows “One” dot. The magician turns it over and “two” dots are visible on the back. Then the magician turns it back, there are now “three” dots on the board, which was originally “one”. The die is turned over again and the back side that was originally “two” now changes to “four”. Emmmm, something is wrong, and the children notice it too: the magician’s hand is covering something? “Okay, let’s do it again.” The magician then performs steps “one” to “four” again. And now the children shout: ‘Your hand! Your hand!” “What’s wrong with my hand?” says the magician. The children say: “Take your hand away from the dice! Let go of your hand!” The magician must now let go of the hand. But, contrary to what they expect, there is a dot under the hand and that forms the ‘four dots’.
The die is turned back to the board, which was number “three”, and now there of course really are “three” dots. The magician asks again, “What was the number of dots on the back?” The children answer: “Four.” The magician turns the dice over and shows the board. It was “four” but that’s now changing it to “six”! The magician starts counting: “One, two, three, four, six, and it looks like something is missing. Do you know what number is still missing?” The children respond, “The five is missing!” The magician turns the die over again and the board with “three” dots now turns into “Five”!!
